We’re thrilled to welcome Steve to the ARRT team as our new Head of Development! With a career journey that began in the early ’80s, Steve’s tech story has been one of constant evolution. From building his first chatbot on a BBC Micro to leading complex enterprise solutions, Steve brings a unique blend of experience, curiosity, and vision. His dedication and innovative mindset are already making waves, pushing our product development to new heights.

A Journey Through Technology  

Steve’s passion for tech was sparked when he got his hands on a Sinclair ZX81, soon inspiring him to develop “Arty,” his very first “AI” chatbot. He even sold it on the early Micronet 800/Prestel platform! Since then, Steve has navigated a career across diverse industries, designing Microsoft-based solutions for clients as varied as banks and airlines. Now at ARRT, he’s channeling his wealth of experience into leading our digital product strategy with a focus on growth, innovation, and team collaboration. “I’ve been fortunate to work with talented people, build meaningful connections, and land in an exciting role here at ARRT,” Steve reflects.

Life Beyond the Code

After years immersed in the relentless pace of city life, Steve joined ARRT with a fresh outlook and a renewed commitment to finding that elusive work-life balance. “One day, I saw this older gentleman in a suit sprinting frantically for a train, and I thought to myself, ‘That can’t be me in a few years!’” he recalls with a chuckle, his eyes crinkling in amusement. These days, Steve makes sure to carve out time for a daily walk or, on more ambitious days, a jog—“though let’s be real, I call it a plod these days,” he jokes, never one to take himself too seriously.

Beyond work, Steve has a passion that takes him off the beaten path and out into the open air: metal detecting. “No major treasures yet,” he laughs, “but it’s the thrill of the hunt that keeps me going back out there.” His favorite find to date? A King George II Half Penny, minted between 1727 and 1760, a small but meaningful connection to a bygone era, offering a touch of pre-Revolutionary history with each glance. Every coin, every artifact he digs up comes with its own story, and for Steve, piecing together that puzzle is half the fun.

When he’s not out in a field or along a quiet stretch of beach, he’s indulging in his other passions: a good pasty, a perfectly poured pint of cider, and—when he’s feeling particularly brave—a bracing dip in the sea. “There’s no better way to build up an appetite for more pasties!” he quips, his signature grin spreading wide. For Steve, life is about savoring the small joys, the unexpected finds, and every laugh in between.

Shaping the Future at ARRT

Since coming on board, Steve has brought a fresh vision to ARRT’s product development and technical strategy. His goal? To make each project as impactful as it is enjoyable. “If we can solve complex problems and enjoy the journey, that’s a win,” he shares. With his expertise, energy, and humor, Steve is a driving force in our mission to deliver innovative, client-focused solutions.
