We recently caught up with Dan, who’s joined arrt as Principal Architect, to find out more about his background, what’s shaped his journey, and what he enjoys outside of work.
From career highlights to life beyond the day-to-day, he shares a bit more about his story so far.
Early Inspiration
Dan’s fascination with technology began at an early age – sparked one Christmas morning when an Oric One computer was unwrapped and switched on for the very first time. What may have seemed like just another gift quickly became something much more significant. That moment ignited a curiosity that never really faded, shaping not only his interests but also his career path and the way he approaches the world today.

From the Midlands to London
Originally from near Leicester, Dan spent his formative years in the Midlands, developing a natural affinity for problem-solving and technology. This passion led him to pursue a degree in Computer Science, providing the foundation for what would become a long and evolving career in IT. After graduating, he made the move to London, where he immersed himself in the fast-paced world of technology in the capital, gaining valuable experience and building the early stages of his professional journey.

A Decade in New Zealand
However, Dan’s story didn’t stop there. In 2006, driven by a sense of adventure and a desire to experience something new, he took a bold step and relocated to New Zealand. What was initially a leap into the unknown turned into a decade-long chapter filled with unforgettable experiences. From breathtaking landscapes to a completely different pace of life, those ten years offered both personal growth and professional development. It was a time defined by exploration, new connections, and a broadened perspective on both life and work.
Life on the South Coast
Returning to the UK in 2016, Dan eventually settled in Eastbourne with his wife, Grace. The South Coast has proven to be the perfect setting for their lifestyle, offering a balance between work and leisure. When they’re not busy with their professional commitments, they enjoy making the most of their surroundings – whether that’s exploring the scenic beauty of Sussex, staying active with a game of padel, or seeking out new and exciting places to eat.

A Passion for Food
Food plays a particularly important role in Dan’s life. His passion extends beyond simply enjoying a great meal – he also loves spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes and flavours. That said, he’s the first to admit that discovering new restaurants and cuisines is equally rewarding, especially when it ties into his love of travel.
Travel and Adventure
Travel has become a shared passion for Dan and Grace, taking them across the globe in search of new cultures, experiences, and, of course, great food. Their adventures have included destinations such as Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, along with various parts of the United States. Closer to home, they’ve explored much of Europe, visiting countries including Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Each trip adds another layer to their story – new memories, new perspectives, and often new culinary favourites that inspire Dan back in the kitchen.
Life Outside of Work

When he’s not travelling or cooking, Dan enjoys getting out on his motorbike, making the most of the winding coastal roads that the South Coast has to offer. It’s another way for him to unwind, explore, and enjoy a sense of freedom outside of his day-to-day routine.
A Loyal Leicester City Supporter
A lifelong supporter of Leicester City Football Club, Dan continues to follow the Foxes closely. While distance means he doesn’t attend as many matches as he once did, his support remains unwavering. Whether the team is celebrating success or facing challenges, he’s always firmly behind them.
A Constant Thread: Technology
Through every stage of his journey – from his early days in the Midlands to life in London, New Zealand, and now the South Coast – one thing has remained constant: his passion for technology. It’s a thread that runs throughout his life, connecting back to that first computer and the spark of curiosity it created. Today, that same curiosity continues to drive him forward, shaping both his professional outlook and his approach to new challenges. connecting back to that first computer and the spark of curiosity it created.
