At ARRT, we’re always looking for opportunities to support individuals, local groups, and charitable causes in meaningful and innovative ways. From backing grassroots football and encouraging young talent aiming to break into motorsport, to supporting initiatives that help older members of the community stay active and connected, giving back is a core part of who we are.

We also often find inspiration much closer to home.

Recently, Tony, Co-Founder and Director at ARRT, mentioned that his son was planning to take part in a rally event. Naturally, we assumed this meant something along the lines of the well-known Gumball Rally, fast cars, luxury brands, and a hefty price tag running into tens of thousands of pounds.

As it turns out, we couldn’t have been more wrong 😊

Enter the Rust Bucket Rally

Instead, Lewis (Tony’s son) and his friend have signed up for the Rust Bucket Rally, a challenge that flips the traditional rally concept on its head.

The premise is brilliantly simple:

  • Buy a car for no more than £1,000
  • Drive it across 10 countries
  • Cover approximately 2,500 miles
  • All while raising money for a charitable cause

It’s less about luxury and more about resilience, creativity, and a good sense of humour — exactly the kind of challenge we love.

Supporting a Meaningful Cause

For this rally, Lewis and his teammate are raising money for AtaLoss, a charity dedicated to supporting people who are dealing with bereavement.

AtaLoss provides vital resources, guidance, and support to individuals navigating loss, something that touches all of us at some point in our lives. It’s a truly worthwhile cause, and we’re proud to see it being supported through such an adventurous initiative.

If you’d like to contribute, you can do so via their JustGiving page:

Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a difference.

The Car… Let’s Just Say It’s “Character Building”

Of course, the big question with any Rust Bucket Rally entry is: what car do you choose?

We won’t spoil the surprise, the car has already been bought, but let’s just say it wouldn’t have been our first choice here at ARRT!

If it were up to us, we’d have gone for something a little more “bulletproof”… perhaps a trusty Volvo V70 diesel estate 😊

That said, where’s the fun in playing it safe?

Get Involved

We’d love to hear from you:
What car would you have chosen for the challenge?

Drop your suggestions in the comments or connect with us on LinkedIn, we’re expecting everything from sensible workhorses to absolute chaos picks.

At ARRT, we believe innovation isn’t just about technology, it’s about people, ideas, and the willingness to take on challenges that push boundaries. The Rust Bucket Rally is a perfect example of that spirit, and we’ll be cheering Lewis and the team on every mile of the journey.

Good luck, you’re going to need it 🚗💨
